It can be said that what is so wonderful about Wears Valley, TN, is what is not in the valley. Many residents and guests alike seek Wears Valley for its spacious landscape, mountain horizons and the lack of more tourist-oriented businesses that align the parkway in Pigeon Forge. However, Wears Valley is a unique gathering of businesses, accommodations, sights and fun things that make it a destination for many.
On such a beautiful Sunday (June 2nd, 2019 to be precise) was we decided to take a Wears Valley Road Trip and see what we could find. We had an awesome day.
We began our day at the Mountain Chick Cafe/ Home of Doc’s Donuts and picked up some of their awesome, homemade delights for our trip. We ordered the Roast Beef and Swiss Sandwich and also could not resist the Banana Nut Muffins that were right out of the oven. We could smell them as we entered and simply could not say “no”! Although we ordered our items to go with a destination in mind such as Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area, we enjoyed their waiting area as they prepared our foods. From great books to a pink flamingo, you will see charming decor and find comfort at their perfect location. You can’t miss it, it’s right in the center of Wears Valley on Wears Valley Road.
With our goodies in hand we headed towards Metcalf Bottoms, which you will find when you turn on to Line Springs Road from Wears Valley Road and just keep driving until you enter the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. This is one of the best kept secrets in the area and a place we highly recommend. Swim, picnic, play games, take a walk, surround yourself with beauty when you go to Metalf Bottoms just off Wears Valley Road.
If you enjoy unique shopping, you can find that too in Wears Valley. From the Mountain Brother’s General Store to Aunt Debbie’s Country Store there are plenty of awesome items to take back to friends or to decorate your cabin or home with.
We hope you will visit Wears Valley and find some of the simple things, the awesome people and the unique places that make Wears Valley so much fun to live in and visit.
